Z-AXIS, Inc. provides quality design, prototyping and manufacturing services for complex electronic products and electromechanical assemblies.

We offer fast design turnaround, competitive NRE charges, rapid production and low freight costs from our ISO 9001:2015 certified design and manufacturing facility near Rochester, NY.

We also design, manufacture and sell commercial, industrial and medical power supplies under our Bear Power Supplies brand.

History

Z-AXIS has a long history of custom electronics design and high-quality manufacturing for commercial, medical, military and industrial customers.

Founded in 1989 to offer a unique line of rugged video display monitors, the company diversified in the late 1990s into contract electronics design and manufacturing services. Building on our design and manufacturing expertise, we introduced our Bear Power Supplies line in 2003.

Located in Phelps, NY since its founding, Z-AXIS was a subsidiary of Video Display Corporation from 1991 to 2013. It became a locally-owned New York company in 2013.

Our modern, 32,000 square foot electronic design and contract manufacturing center is conveniently located in western New York near Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo.

Leadership

Z-AXIS is a privately-held New York corporation, locally owned and managed.

Michael Allen, Co-owner, President and Chairman of the board, has held engineering and leadership roles at Z-AXIS since its founding in 1989. He has led the company to sustained business growth since becoming president in 2006. His key achievements include identifying and developing new lines of business, implementing quality programs, upgrading manufacturing systems and creating a team of high-performance leaders for all areas of the business. He has a BS in Electrical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and holds thirteen US patents.

Robin Allen, Co-owner and Secretary of the board, is a key contributor on personnel policies and issues at Z-AXIS. She also owns and operates Rainbow Zebra Graphics, a graphic design firm in western NY. As a small business owner she has experience managing artists and graphic designers, creating products, managing online and catalog sales, and controlling business finances. Robin has prior experience as Art Director for Rochester Woman Magazine and as a Graphic Artist for a regional marketplace publication. She has a BA in art and design from State University of New York at Oswego.

Michael Good, member of the board, is Vice President of Finance for the Americas Region at CooperVision, Inc.  He was previously with ITT, where he served as CFO of the Engineered Systems Business and Controller of the Industrial Process Segment. Prior to joining ITT, he was Director of Finance for the Global Surgical Business and held roles within the Corporate Audit function of Bausch + Lomb.  He began his career with the public accounting firm PwC, spending 11 years in Rochester, NY; New York, NY; and Geneva, Switzerland. Good is a CPA and has a BS in Business Administration from Bucknell University.

Nick Valente, member of the board, is President and Owner of Bach to Rock: America’s Music School and the strategic consulting company Enterprise 11:11, LLC. He has served as Executive Vice President of PayQuicker and Executive Director of Strategy and Business Development at ITT Corporation, where he led corporate strategy, business development and mergers and acquisitions. He also held Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification in Commercial Excellence and Green Belt Certification in Operational Excellence. Valente has 12 years of prior experience as Vice President of Business Development for Bosch Security and Communications and IDEX Corporation. He has an MS in Management and a BS in Organizational Management from Roberts Wesleyan College.
